Maria Kalman

This is whacky and it works... the perfect combination; Everything I admire in a picture book. There is an authenticity about Maria's style. She paints her invented world with charm and wit and she renders it all with a clear love of painting. The above image is from the Max series that follows Max (Dog/Poet/Dreamer) from New York to Paris to Hollywood as he chases his dreams. It is just pure entertainment and is written and crafted so cleverly! Impossible to read this book and not adore Max.
